Unexpected Lifer: Yellow-headed Blackbird

Posted 4 CommentsPosted in Birds

It’s not every day that you look out your window and see a lifer bird at your feeder!

Yellow-headed Blackbird
Yellow-headed Blackbird

This is a Yellow-headed Blackbird. He showed up on a gray, icky day after Tropical Storm Eta passed through the state. His normal range is west of the Mississippi River, but there are regular reports of vagrants in Florida. A Yellow-headed Blackbird was photographed flying over Lake Apopka on November 3; it’s possible that this is the same bird.

Friday the 13rd brought some good luck as I updated my Life List!

This little rascal is quickly captivating our hearts. She’s just eight weeks old and so tiny! Her favorite place is her blue condo.

Happy Girl

She’s a regular busy bee, always on the move with her toys and, well, anything that moves. Except when she’s asleep…

I have a feeling that my shorter-angle lenses will get a workout with this little cutie around. Who can resist this face?

I will let her introduce herself. She’s quite vocal! Maybe soon she’ll tell us what her name is! :)
