Rich made me revise the title. Originally it was “What were we thinking!?” but he says it’s all my fault!
The smell of fall in the air and the slightly cooler temperatures made me very ambitious to do yard work. This weekend we are installing the valves for our new microjet sprinkler system, and we are also having a load of sod and a load of mulch delivered. Soon our chinch bug stricken yard will be green again, and the back rose beds will have a nice fresh layer of mulch!
Putting out mulch from a big pile on your driveway is so much easier than making trip after trip to Lowes for bags!!
So the mulch was delivered at 8am, and by 2, I had it all out. I lost count of the number of times I refilled the wheelbarrow! Thank goodness for the tiny breezes.
The best part has been listening to our own backyard birds. It’s definitely fall – we’ve had more types of birds in the yard this morning than the rest of the summer combined! We’ve had Palm Warblers, Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, a Gray Catbird (we think), a Blue Jay (actually not very common in Stoneybrook West), Red-Winged Blackbirds, a Bald Eagle flying overhead, and the usual assortment of Mockingbirds, Cardinals, House Finches, and Mourning Doves. We have a new Mockingbird around who sings different songs…he does a pretty good gull imitation! I think I may have also heard a Red-Bellied Woodpecker.
The sod hasn’t arrived yet…so I get to take a quick break…time to go take some pictures of the sprinkler project!
