We’ve had some gloomy, rainy weekends lately, so I pulled out my macro lens and proceeded to concoct my own photography opportunities.  I’ve often admired macro shots on 500px and I decided to try to re-create some of my favorite water droplet macro photography images.

A cosmos flower lends itself well to this type of image.  I used a spray bottle to mist some dew on some cat grass (no, I didn’t get permission from Whiskey first!)  A set of third-hand tools helped position the grass and the flower properly for the refraction.

Next I took one of my favorite butterfly photos (the same one I used as a basis for my butterfly cross-stitch) and used it for the water refraction effect.  This image is best viewed large, and it’s cool, but I’m not sure I’ve yet achieved my desired effect.  Maybe I’ll try again on the next rainy day!

I had a six-pack of pansies waiting for Squirt, so I pulled one out and misted it.  The image is pretty, but the close-up is better…

Rich walked in while I was processing this image on my screen.  His jaw dropped as he realized he was viewing the center of the tiny flower next to my camera.  Yep, there’s a ton of detail in the center of a pansy. Almost like a hidden little cave.

My final image was my favorite.  Combine the cat grass, pansy, and more water.  :)

This was a lot of fun.  Don’t be surprised to see more macro shots in my future!
